A life of a hairdresser is not easy is a sentence you will hear surprisingly (and often annoyingly) often once you've started your beauty school. People will insist on telling you that alongside every single step you take on your pathway to becoming a real hair stylist. What is more, they will make sure not to avoid mentioning miscellaneous aspects of that sentence, including how being a hair stylist will affect your physical and mental well-being, your social and family life, your future career or its lack.
Despite the fact that I am officially a hairdresser now, have passed all of my exams, I cannot say I am a professional. Which is exactly the reason why I cannot discuss with you any possible implicatons of how hard a hairdresser's job can be.
There is one thing I know for certain though. One thing that makes hairdressers without passion frown and kick their little legs with frustration and people with vocation for hairdressing beam with joy.
I know for certain that what makes a job of a hairdresser so hard is that it changes every single day. Innovations are introduced, companies making hair products appear and disappear from and of the market, fashion change, people and their taste alter and if you do not adapt to those changes, you're not only lost. You literally lose.
Today, I have found a bunch of leaflets and hairdressing magazines I bought and was given in March, when me and my boyfriend went to a hairdressing event (I vaguely mentioned it here). I really wanted to flick through them to see all of the amazing things the companies organising and taking part in the event had to offer. But then I thought: does that really make sense? I mean, all of those things are either not fashionable or not on the market anymore.
Doesn't make them any less useful of course, just ridiculously outdated!
