I always wanted to think of myself as being able to become a spy. Be it James Bond or Totally Spies style, I never really cared, I've just always been (mistakenly) convinced I have what it takes to be one. Well, today proved me wrong.
Not only did I go into my house without having reminded myself of the password to the alarm system first, but I also kept entering the wrong code even when the alarm went off and started getting louder and louder. Finally, roughly after 10 minutes, a brilliant thought came to my head. Since the alarm system had not switched off after I entered the password I was convinced was correct, I must have thought of an incorrect one. Oh, clever me.
And this is a point at which I started panicking because of the fact that everyone in the vicinity of where I live probably thought someone was trying to rob my house (funnily enough, noone really tried to come and find out what was happening). And I just stood there with my front door half open and decided to wait for the security to come. The only thing I thought of at that moment was that I'm awful for not having taken the time to write the number of the security team so as to call them and tell them it had all been a terrible mistake and that I'd forgotten my password and I'm so so so sorry.
Which is exactly when something dawned on me: I need internet! And so I ran upstairs to get my laptop and find the security company's number (leaving the front door open. I'm hopeless...). I went downstairs again. And that is when a series of unfortunate events happened:
My phone turned off and did not seem to be willing to cooperate with me (I could not turn it back on!)
I brilliantly thought of another phone that I have, that is the land line. But when I tried dialing the security company various numbers it didn't work and kept cutting me off!
I finally managed to get in touch with the company I found on the internet and, after I said what'd happened, I heard 'Are you sure you've called the right security company?' on the other side of the phone line.
With my phone not working, front doors open and the alarm giving out the highest pitched and loudest noise I've ever heard I managed to look at the label of the security company on my alarm system and found out the right name of the company I was supposed to call.
I never got a chance to speak to them on the phone though, because by that time they had already come to my house looking all intimidating and shit. I told them what happened and said something like 'I'm awfully sorry for bothering you'.
And that is when it got funny. They seemed to have gone, which is why I decided it's high time I drank some beer and had a cigarette. My dog was still uneasy and kept barking, so when they came back knocking on my doors to ask whether I was sure everything was okay, I decided to firstly let him into another room. I didn't want to be interrupted in my second attempt to convince the security team I was alright. I think I also thought (for some reason or another) they would be scared (my dog''s a yorkshire terrier). Oh, logic. I started talking to the guy who came up to my doors... which is exactly when my dog decided to get agressive and started banging on the doors inside of my house.
'Yes sir' BANG BANG 'I'm perfectly well' BANG BANG 'I just forgot my password' BANG BANG 'I'm really sorry'. I smiled apologetically not being able to think of anything else but of that one scene from the Shining. I half expected my dog to turn out to be a maniac I had previously closed in my room. And I know the security guy thought of the same thing.
But everything's alright now. BANG BANG I'm drinking my beer and giggling to myself (not sure if it's because of the absurdity of the situation or because of the beer). BANG BANG Everything's fine. BANG BANG No, seriously BANG BANG I'm fineeejynhfbn ....,mjht
We'll see how it goes.
